Yay! It compiles!!11

After fighting with my IT project (see the Banshee's Burlesque link above), I finally got it to compile! And, even better, it runs! :O
This is a major milestone in the development, and shows that I can at least make my code work, so now there is just the minor task of getting it to interact with the player. ;)

Amarok update from 1.4 to 2.0

Just the other day, when I upgraded the family PC from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04, it also updated Amarok to v2.0. As we all enjoy using Amarok, I was mildly annoyed by the way that the devs changed everything. Yes, it looks very pretty, but it's hardly as easy to use as the older version. Plus, there's lots of wasted space on the screen and it takes more time to scan through a playlist.

Amarok 1.4 on my laptop

Compare with...

Lenovo SL laptop drivers

(lets try that again, I accidentally tabbed out of the textbox without realising it and hit backspace, losing the post.)

I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad SL300.1 not long after Xmas, preinstalled with Ubuntu 8.10. (Which I installed Gentoo over, Ubuntu just frustrates me.). Unfortunately, the volume keys, various hotkeys and the bluetooth wouldn't work, and I was beginning to get rather frustrated.

Twitter

As much as I think the excessive usage of twitter (for example: http://hackaday.com/2009/04/13/twittering-toots-a-chairs-perspective/ and other such things.) is silly, the whole idea sounds fairly neat to me, so, yet another thing I said I'd never do is crossed off the list.
(Although you still ain't gonna get me on MySpace or Facebook or any of their ilk)
So now, if you really have that little to do, you can follow me (TamberP) on twitter. Although there's not really much point, I don't say much anyway. And what little I do say is usually complete crap.

I Agree... to nothing?

I Agree... to nothing?

I installed Opera to do some website testing, and upon opening, the license window appears, and it's blank.
It's not just a case of white text on white background, there really is nothing there. Well, it's nice not to be bound by a EULA, isn't it. :P

EDIT: Unless, of course, it's white text on white background that refuses to let me select it, which is possible.

Octane2

My newly arrived SGI Octane2. with a massive 18GB HDD and 1GB RAM. :D The wooden box in the background is Deamon, my desktop box.

Minor rant about movie script writers/directors.

Anyone who knows me knows that, while without driving license and not even taking driving lessons, I appreciate cars, particularly those of the muscle car era ('64 - '72). So it pisses me off incredibly to see these classic cars continually being shot up, crushed, driven into things and otherwise destroyed.

New users

EDIT: As of 1930H BST today, the server can send email, so you should be able to register normally. Hopefully. *crosses fingers*

If you've signed up recently, bear in mind that the server can't send email atm, so you will not have got the registration email. If this is the case, email me at james(dot)penketh[At]googlemail<dot>com with "Site Registration" as the topic and your username in the body, and I'll set a temporary password manually.

Okay, it's official. I hate setting up mail-servers.

Okay, it's official, I hate setting up mail servers. All I wanted was something fairly light that I could use so that drupal could send out registration emails, etc.
And instead, I end up fighting with trying to get postfix and courier to work. So I've given up. I've only ever managed to get a mailserver working once (and I think that was more blind luck than anything), and that was killed by a dead disc drive.
Also, I have not used Debian in ages (nearly 3 years, I believe), so I keep stumbling blindly around the filesystem looking for things that exist there in Gentoo. Ah well.

Welcome to the new server

Everything from here on is on the new server, hosted by Bytemark.co.uk, so it will stay up for longer than it did on my old desktop machine that I was using as a server. On the plus side, I can now have my desktop back for games... <.<
