Lampage

Took a few more nibbles at things on Saturday; mostly just futzing with the front indicator lamps.

I didn't like how they ground only through the mounting bolt, especially since I've painted the front wing inside and out; so gently disassemble, solder a wire onto a washer that fits snugly inside the bulb-holder beneath the spring & centre contact, then reassemble.

This was followed by fitting the lamp to the wing I have temporarily mounted, because it's a little preview of things to come.

...well, it would've been rude not to fit the other lamps, too, right? They all work as expected. Grounding issues avoided by the use of having a dedicated ground wire as part of the plug-in electrical connections.

The little nut-inserts I'm using for the headlight adjuster screws are definitely showing some promise, but my implementation needs a little re-work. I think I'm going to have to completely remove the old brass adjuster inserts, weld up the holes, and redrill to a smaller size to take the newer insert. I should also get a little selection box of springs, too, while I think of it. (I was sure I had one already, but can't find it.)

The headlight bowl is currently held in place by bolts and nuts, as opposed to the original self-tapping screws into speed-fasteners, as the holes were large enough for that to work and I couldn't find the original clip things. Letting the idea stew in my head of perhaps just putting more nut-inserts to use there, too, to save me buying more of the spiteful little clips.

...

Anyway, the lights are going to have to be evicted again at some point because I need to finish painting that panel. (I also need to clean up the bloody run that's come from painting the inside black, which I only noticed as I uploaded this picture.) It's had two coats of the golden yellow, so far, and I'm hoping another good coat should do. Then I need to start on the offside wing, which is still in primer, but protected under a thick layer of dust.

(...and I've got that little bit of welding to do just below the vent. And stripping the old paint which will likely uncover more scabby patches. And the driver's side floor to do. And the holes in the roof. And it'd be really nice to have the new wheels on order at some point this year so I can find out if all my worrying about it and measuring actually pays off. And, and, and ... )
