A hint of bodywork

Well, I did manage to get up to a little bodywork! ...despite my welder's best attempts. Managed to weld in the little reinforcement plate from crossmember to the outside of the cab frame, and started tacking in another piece of floor at the back of the passenger side of the cab.

However, the liner in my welding torch appears to be screwed up beyond all belief, because it'll only feed wire if everything's held perfectly straight; so I took the torch off and lobbed it out into the yard in a fit of rage. I've since picked it back up and ordered another liner, so I should hopefully be back in business there before next week.

And I've also managed to trim off that little left-over scrap from the body side that I trimmed the overlap out of, which took some wrangling with tin-snips and a prying screwdriver.

I also, just for a laugh, ordered some cheap paint-stripper the other week. It's great stuff, you take your painted panel and wipe this stuff on, and now you have a slightly moist painted panel, without even damaging the paint!

(I think it's meant for the much more modern varieties of paint, and just can't touch that heavy oil & lead stuff from way back. I'll have to hunt down something a bit more aggressive, come payday.)

Other than that, little change from previous; but with the bonus hilarity that on Saturday afternoon, I headed down to the unit to tinker with stuff and decided to find out which of the brakes on my car was squeaking. Went to jack it up to pull the drum off the NS rear and discovered that the axle was ... retained a little less robustly than it was from the factory. Ended up having to pull the bolt out so I could weld in a custom repair 'washer' and lit the bush on fire a few times in the process.
